In this route two fundamental cities in the history of Al-Andalus are united. Cordova and Granada lived a golden age with Hispanic-Muslim culture: Andalusi. In the geographic space that is located between both we can verify the Christian advance by earth and the centuries, and the Muslim defenses that were built against it: palaces, castles and medinas.
The landscape and the architecture are witnesses of that tense and rich relation between these two cultures. With the proclamation of the Califato by Abderraman III, Cordova and its area of influence lived their a golden period reaching a universal projection. When it was divided in a multitude of kingdoms of Taifa in century XI, Cordova and Granada headed individual principalities. The unit imposed by the Almorávides and Almohades between centuries XI and XIII gave new impulse to the localities of this region. The Christian advanced after the battle of the Navas of Tolosa, the conquests of Cordova and Jaen, located on the border between Christians and Nazaríes in the heart of this route. It emphasizes the continuous presence of little towns and castles located on strategic heights, giving it a noticeable historical and romantic air.
The route begins in the city of Cordova, located in the valley of the Guadalquivir and runs south direction by the Cordovan countryside until arriving at the natural park of the Subbetica mountain range. Located in the geographic center of Andalusia, it is of great beauty by his valleys and stirred up hills, the park form the mountain ranges of Cabra, Gaena, Horconera and Rute. From here we will go south of the province of Jaén and then we will enter by the north in the province of Granada, direction to natural park of the mountain range of Huétor, near of the city of Granada
