Route that unites the cities of Huelva and Cadiz throughout the Costa de la Luz, located in the Atlantic slope, to the west of Andalusia.
This coast extends from the estuary of the Guadiana, natural border between Spain and Portugal, and Tarifa, point more to the south of the Iberian Peninsula. It is a low coast originated by the accumulation of sandy deposits. Throughout its 294 km we find extensive beaches, dunes and formation of salt marshes in the mouths of the rivers. The one of the Guadalquivir is most extensive getting to form an ample surface of salt marsh pertaining to the national park of Doñana, heart natural of Atlantic Andalusia, and declared Patrimony of the Humanity by UNESCO in 1994. Our route leaves from the city of Huelva located in the confluence of the Tinto rivers and Odiel, the main ones of the province, and near of the coast, surrounded by salt marshes and small islands, that altogether form estuary laughs a called it of Huelva.
We will pedal south-east direction to leave the capital crossing the Tinto river, great interest, their red waters come from the great amount of heavy metals and oxygen shortage, chosen by the NASA like habitat to study by its possible similarity to the atmosphere of the Mars planet. We will happen through Palos de la Frontera, locality from which left to the caravels of Cristóbal Columbus when he discovered America, to arrive to the coast. From Mazagón they would accompany ample pine groves, dunes and extensive beaches to us way of Matalascañas, tourist centre belonging to the locality of Almonte and located next to Doñana. From here and by the coast of the Doñana Boundary we will arrive here at the estuary of the Guadalquivir, natural limit between the provinces of Huelva and Cadiz, to reach Sanlúcar de Barrameda. Between vineyards near the coast we will enter in the bay of Cadiz by el Puerto de Santa Maria, having crossed its waters on board the Vaporcito, popular boat of passengers, we will arrive at the millenarian city of Cadiz.
